Municipal Services

PennJersey is uniquely qualified to provide the required technical support and expertise to municipalities to identify, address and manage their environmental liabilities. We routinely work with municipalities at sites that could have an adverse impact on human health and the environment.

Whether through their day-to-day operational services or via tax foreclosures, municipalities often have a “roster” of facilities that could pose an environmental risk. Such facilities typically include:

  • Public Works/Support & Maintenance
  • Vehicle Fueling/Maintenance
  • Aboveground/Underground Storage Tanks (ASTs/USTs)
  • Schools/Child Care
  • Police or Public Firing Ranges
  • Fire Training Facilities
  • Recreation Areas/Parks
  • Tax Foreclosures/Eminent Domain
Linear Construction (Roadways, Utilities Construction & Maintenance)
  • Redevelopment & Brownfields

PennJersey is uniquely qualified to provide the required technical support and expertise to municipalities to identify, address and manage their environmental liabilities.

Once a potentially impacted site has been identified, our qualified LSRPs and technical experts assist by properly evaluating the site history, conducting sampling and contaminant delineation, and developing a protective and cost-effective remedial action plan. This approach allows for effective site redevelopment or improvement while minimizing risks associated with various types of impacted properties. If necessary, a site can be remediated through a host of active or passive approaches that can include in situ treatment technologies, implementing engineering/institutional controls, and/or aggressive invasive treatment solutions.
In certain situations, a particular client may have several contiguous sites that are comprised of abandoned or under-utilized industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. In these cases, our experts have experience utilizing federal and state programs to assist developers with restoring these “Brownfield” sites for practical use with sophisticated, innovative, and established remedial techniques.
Additionally, PennJersey has extensive school facility experience and has been re-appointed as the LSRP/environmental consultant for the Hoboken BOE, the Perth Amboy BOE, and the New Brunswick BOE annually since 2013. Mr. Ferguson and Mr. Call have also personally managed the environmental investigation and remediation of numerous key projects on behalf of New Jersey Schools Development Authority (NJSDA), formerly New Jersey Schools Construction Company (NJSCC), and various school districts across NJ.
