Richard Katz

VICE PRESIDENT

Mr. Katz holds a Master of Science in Environmental Sciences from Rutgers University with over 53 years of experience in the governmental, consulting, and private sectors. Within his varied career, he also served as an officer in the United States Air Force and as a broadcast meteorologist/science reporter in both Trenton, NJ, and Austin, TX. His accomplishments in the environmental field, however, extend far beyond these activities as Mr. Katz was a trailblazer in New Jersey as environmental protections began in earnest.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Mr. Katz was at the heart of many of the new initiatives launched by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). His work within the agency included stints with the Bureau of Air Pollution Control, the Office of Cancer and Toxic Substances Research, the Office of Hazardous Waste Management, the Bureau of Environmental Review and Permitting, the Division of Hazard Management, and the Bureau of Industrial Site Evaluation (the ECRA office).

Under Mr. Katz, PennJersey Environmental was a charter member of the LSP Coalition, a consortium of environmental firms that worked with lawmakers to draft the Site Remediation Reform Act (SRRA). Rounding out his leadership, Mr. Katz was in the first group of individuals certified to be Licensed Site Remediation Professionals and served on the Board of Trustees of the Licensed Site Remediation Association as its first Secretary.

At this time, Mr. Katz is semi-retired but remains available to consult on matters ranging from specific projects to the general development of the environmental protection field over the past half-century.
